2nd Sunday on King Street started in October, 2010. It was requested by Mayor Riley after the historic streetscape project to stimulate the downtown economy. His ask: bring locals to King Street on a vehicle free afternoon to enjoy our Main Street with friends and family

What is 2nd Sunday on King Street?

2nd Sunday on King Street is monthly community event held on King Street in downtown Charleston, organized under the nonprofit Charleston Peninsula Preservation Trust, (CPPT). It’s designed to celebrate Charleston’s “Main Street” and Peninsula stores, artists, makers, and culture.

When does it happen?

2nd Sunday on King Street takes place on the second Sunday of each month, from noon to 5 PM, year-round.

Where exactly on King Street?

2nd Sunday on King Street takes place on King Street between Queen Street and Calhoun Street.

Is 2nd Sunday affiliated with a specific charity?

In addition to supporting Charleston business community, 2nd Sunday on King Street supports many local nonprofits throughout the year and operates independently under the nonprofit Charleston Peninsula Preservation Trust, (CPPT).

How are vendors chosen?

Vendor participation follows a priority structure. King Street brick and mortar businesses, local makers and artisans, and food vendors. Also prioritized are cultural organizations such as theater, music, and art groups.

How do I apply to be a vendor?

Email CPPT@charlestonppt.org with your information.

Is there a space for private gatherings or a lounge area?

Occasionally we have a public area where discussions take place or special invitations occur. This is reported in our 2nd Sunday newsletter, which you can sign up for on our website.

What does vehicle free mean?

For pedestrian safety, streets are blocked, cars are towed (with ample warning) and…

Parking at meters is free on Sundays, and street parking is available in many areas. We also offer a two-hour parking voucher on our website for garages.
